No. 13 Pfeiffer Softball Gets Road Sweep at Southern Virginia
Buena Vista, Va. (March 31, 2023) – The 13th ranked Pfeiffer University softball team earned a sweep of Southern Virginia in a USA South doubleheader in Buena Vista, Va. on Friday afternoon

How it Happened – Game 1
After falling behind 4-0, Pfeiffer used four home runs to battle back to take the 7-6 win in eight innings.
Jaci Cook (Waynesville, N.C.) hit her first career home run, a solo shot, in the fourth inning to get the Falcons on the board.Â
Caiti Mickles (Boonville, N.C.) then delivered an RBI double down the right field line to cut the SVU lead to 4-2.
In the sixth inning,
Gracie Griffin (Calabash, N.C.) lifted her third home run of the season, also a solo shot, to 4-3. Sophomore Emma Chopkio (Mooresville, N.C.) tied the game at 4-4 with an RBI single to left field, scoring
Kenzi Lyall (Sparta, N.C.)
In the eighth inning, Lyall belted her fifth long ball of the season, a two-run blast, that put Pfeiffer up 6-4. Chopko made it back-to-back blasts with a solo shot to push the lead to 7-4.
SVU then pushed a pair of runs across in their half of the eighth after a Falcon error combined with an RBI single to right field.
A strikeout by Falcon pitcher Lyall recorded the second out of the inning while a groundout to first base ended the game, with Pfeiffer winning 7-6.
Lyall threw a complete game striking out eight SVU batters in earning the win, improving to 9-7 on the year.
Game 2
Senior
Kyndell Warren (Lenoir, N.C.) had three RBI on the day, as she hit a two-run home run in the third inning and then delivered an RBI double in the seventh to help Pfeiffer toa 4-2 win.
Pfeiffer pitcher
Kali Morton (Mooresville, N.C.) was dominant in the circle, throwing a complete game allowing just one hit while striking out 10 SVU batters to improve to 8-2 on the season.

The Falcons will continue their road trip on Saturday, as they will take on Mary Baldwin University in Staunton, Va. on Saturday afternoon. The first pitch of the scheduled doubleheader is set to be thrown at Noon.
