Pfeiffer Baseball Completes USA South Sweep of Southern Virginia
Misenheimer, N.C. (April 1, 2023) – The Pfeiffer University baseball team completed the sweep of a USA South home series over Southern Virginia on a warm, but windy Saturday afternoon at Joe Ferebee Field
The Basics – Game 1
Pfeiffer pitcher
Thad Lewis (Greenville, N.C.) hurled a complete-game, scattering three hits while striking out 13 SVU batters in Pfeiffer's 8-1 win in game one.
Zach Ferrell (Apex, N.C.) started things off in the third inning with a two-run homer run down the right field link to put Pfeiffer up 2-0. Later in the inning,
Josh Turner (Greensboro, N.C.) ripped a two-RBI single to center field to go up 4-0.
SVU scored their only run of the game in the sixth on an RBI single from Nick Daynes. Pfeiffer added three more runs in the eight inning to provide the 8-1 final.
The Basics - Game 2
Aided by three SVU errors in the first inning, Pfeiffer batted around and plated six runs.
Another two errors from SVU in the second inning against allowed six runs to cross, sending Pfeiffer to the 12-0 lead after two complete innings.
SVU would score on a wild pitch in the fifth inning to close to 12-1, but a
Jake Brown single in the sixth inning pushed the Falcons to the 13-1 lead.
Pfeiffer reliever
Jake Blevins closed the game in the seventh inning forcing a groundout and triking out SVU's Dylan Boyce for the second out.
SVU then got a pinch hit double from Tyson Tolley before Blevins forced a fly out to center field to end the game via the USA South 12-run rule.
