Baseball Takes Series at No. 16 Methodist With DH Split

Pfeiffer Baseball Wins Series with DH Split at No. 16 Methodist on Sunday

Fayetteville, N.C. (April 23, 2023) – Visiting Pfeiffer University won the USA South baseball series with No. 16 Methodist, splitting a Sunday afternoon doubleheader in Fayetteville.

How it Happened – Game 1
Senior Brady Parker drove in all five of Pfeiffer's runs while pitcher Thad Lewis hurled a complete-game gem, allowing just two runs on five hits while striking out seven Methodist batters.

Parker delivered a sacrifice fly in the first inning to put the Falcons up 1-0.  He followed that with a two-run home run in the fifth inning, his second of the season, putting Pfeiffer up 3-1.

In the seventh, he would lace a two-RBI double to right center to put Pfeiffer up 5-1.

Methodist managed a run in the ninth to make it 5-2, but Lewis was able to force a foul out to first base to win 5-2 to take the series.

How it Happened – Game 2
Methodist would break a 6-6 tie in the ninth inning to salvage game three, winning 7-6.

Senior Cory Lackey put Pfeiffer on top in the first inning with an RBI single and would later hit a solo home run in the sixth inning to pull Pfeiffer to 5-2.  After Methodist took the 6-2 lead on an RBI double in the sixth, Pfeiffer's Christian Ezzell hit a three-run home run to right field to close the gap to 6-5.

Pfeiffer's Josh Turner would tie the game at 6-6 in the eighth inning with an RBI single, but Methodist's heroics in the ninth sent the Monarchs to the 7-6 win.

Pfeiffer will step out of USA South play on Wednesday, April 26 when they host Roanoke College in a 4:00 p.m. game at Joe Ferebee Field.
