Pfeiffer Baseball Thumps Mary Baldwin in Series Opener
Misenheimer, N.C. (April 28, 2023) – The Pfeiffer University baseball team opened their final USA South series of the regular season with a 12-0 thumping of visiting Mary Baldwin University at Joe Ferebee Field on Friday night.
How it Happened
Pfeiffer wasted no time in jumping on visiting MBU, scoring four runs in the first inning.Â
Brady Parker got things rolling with an RBI single to left field to put the Falcons up 1-0. Two wild pitches allowed the lead to go to 3-0 and a passed ball enabled the 4-0 lead.
The Falcons scored another three runs in the second to go up 7-0. The trio of runs were scored on a
Jake Brown two-RBI single followed by a Parker groundout.Â
In the sixth inning Brown would double to right center field to allow the Pfeiffer lead to go to 8-0.
In the eighth inning, the Falcons plated four runs with
Christian Ezzell delivering an RBI single to go up 10-0.Â
Carter Merrill then drew a bases loaded walk to put Pfeiffer up 11-0.
Austin Wood then ended the game via the 12-run rule on a sacrifice flay to left field, scoring Josh Tuner from third to end the game.
Pfeiffer starting pitcher
John Owen improved tom 6-2 on the season, as he hurled his third complete game of the season. Owen scattered five hits in the outing and struck out seven MBU batters while allowing just one walk.
MBU and Pfeiffer will conclude their USA South series on Saturday, April 29 with a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
