Pfeiffer Softball Falls to No. 20 Rowan, Eliminates Penn State Berks at NCAA Division III Regional
Marietta, Ohio (May 19, 2023) – The Pfeiffer University softball team dropped a 7-5 decision to No. 20 Rowan University then bounced back to eliminate Penn State Berks 5-1 on day two of the NCAA Division III Regional at Marietta Field in Marietta, Ohio

How it Happened – Game 1
Rowan wasted no time in game one, as they bolted to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning after a two-RBI double.
The Falcons would respond in the bottom of the first, when sophomore
Gracie Griffin ripped an RBI double to right field followed by a two-RBI double from graduate student
Caiti Mickles, putting Pfeiffer on top 3-2.
Pfeiffer's lead would extend to 4-2 when senior
Kyndell Warren would hit an RBI single to left field.
Rowan then used the long ball, hitting a pair of two-run home runs in the third and fourth innings to jump ahead 6-4.
A
Kenzi Lyall RBI single to right field in the fourth inning pulled the Falcons to 6-5, but Rowan responded in the sixth with an RBI single that would give the Profs a 7-5 lead.
Griffin would get a single in the seventh to put the tying run aboard, but a Mickles fly out and a
Gretchen Wolpert ground out ended the threat, with Rowan taking the 7-5 win.
How it Happened – Game 2
As the designated visiting team in the second elimination game of the day, Pfeiffer's
Emma Chopko put the Falcons up 1-0 in the first tinning when she scored on a wild pitch. She would then double to left field in the third inning to put Pfeiffer on top 2-0.
Griffin would collect two RBI on a double to left field, putting the Falcons up 4-0 in the third inning. Chopko would then single in a run in the fourth to give the Falcons the 5-0 lead. PSU Berks would scratch across a run in the seventh inning to provide the 5-1 final.

Sadie Lee earned the win in the circle, improving to 2-1 on the season after tossing 5.1 innings. Lee scattered six hits while allowing just one run in the win. Lee also struck out a pair of Nittany Lion Batters on the afternoon.

With the split on day two, Pfeiffer advances to the NCAA Division III Regional championship game on Saturday afternoon.
The Falcons will take on No. 20 Rowan at 2:00 p.m. at Marietta Field.
 A Falcon win in game one would force a second championship game at approximately 4:30 p.m.
