Raleigh, N.C. (Jan. 17, 2024) --The Pfeiffer University women's basketball team held William Peace to just 19 percent from beyond the arc in a 4-for-21 shooting performance, but fell 64-62 to the Pacers in a USA South road game on Wednesday.
Sophomore Hannah Isley led the Falcons (3-11, 2-7) with 17 points. Junior Alexis Bynum tacked on nine points and three steals off of the bench and while Amanda Finch chipped in as well with eight points off the bench.
Led by freshman Lola Cabiness-Ali's five offensive rebounds, Pfeiffer did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 14 boards that resulted in eight second chance points.
Pfeiffer's defense held William Peace to only 32.8 percent shooting from the field, including 19 percent from beyond the arc. The Falcons also limited Nautica Smiley to 4-of-16 shooting in the game.
How It Happened
Pfeiffer kept it close in the first quarter, but entered the second frame down 13-12.
The Falcons then rallied, outscoring the Pacers 16-13 in the second quarter to take a 28-26 halftime lead. Pfeiffer forced three William Peace turnovers in the period and turned them into four points.
William Peace then took a 43-36 lead following intermission before Pfeiffer went on a 6-0 run, punctuated by a three from Finch, to trim its deficit to 43-42 with 1:16 to go in the third. The Falcons were unable to cut further into the deficit, but did not cede ground to William Peace either and entered the fourth quarter trailing 45-44. Pfeiffer's bench made the most of its minutes in the period, as non-starters totaled 12 of the team's 16 third-quarter points.
William Peace kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 63-54 advantage before Pfeiffer went on a 6-0 run, finished off by Kenadie Hudler's three, to shrink the deficit to 63-60 with 26 seconds to go in the contest. The Falcons kept their comeback going, holding the lead with 06:56 left to play, but William Peace managed to hold on for the 64-62 win.
