Misenheimer, N.C. (Nov. 16, 2024) --The Pfeiffer University men's basketball team got a 30-point showing from the bench on the way to an 86-76 win against Clinton College at home in Merner Gym on Saturday afternoon.
The Falcons (2-1) had four players score in double figures, led by senior Daymon Beckwith, who had 18 points. Senior Alex Cunningham tacked on 14 points and junior Doug Smith finished with a double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds. The double-double is Smith's first of the season.
Pfeiffer took advantage with excellent ball movement in Saturday's game, piling up 15 assists on 29 made field goals. Fulp's three assists paced the Falcons.
Pfeiffer also controlled the action inside, coming away with eight blocks. Smith's three rejections led the way individually for the Falcons.
How It Happened
After falling behind 4-2, Pfeiffer went on a 9-0 run with 18:36 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Beckwith, to take an 11-4 lead. The Falcons entered halftime with a 37-33 advantage. The Falcons relied on its three-point shooting in the half, knocking down six shots to account for 18 of its 37 points.
Clinton fought back to tie things up at 41-41 before Pfeiffer went on an 8-0 run, finished off by Fulp's layup, to take the 49-41 lead with 15:20 to go.
Pfeiffer continuted to expand the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 86-76 win.
Pfeiffer got a boost from its bench, as non-starters accounted for 14 of its 49 total points in the second half.
