Pfeiffer Men's Cross Country Claims Fifth at NCAA South Regional

Clinton, Miss. (Nov. 16, 2024) – The Pfeiffer University men's cross country team came away with a fifth-place showing at the NCAA South Region Championship on Saturday afternoon in Clinton, Miss.

The Falcons amassed 176 points, which put them ahead of fellow USA South members Southern Virginia, Methodist and Brevard.

Sawyer Helms was once again the leader for the Falcons, as he claimed a 12^th-place finish in the 160-runner field with a time of 25:15.3 over the 8,000-meter course.

Teammate Cannon Powell claimed 21^st place with a 25:44.2.  Camden Misenheimer also placed inside the top-50, as he clocked a time of 26:21.8 to finish in 34^th place.

Lynchburg claimed the team title by five points over second-place Emory University and by eight points over third-place Washington and Lee University.

The Falcons will return to The Village to await the NCAA Championship selections, which will be made at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 17.

Thirty-two teams will make up the NCAA Division III Championships, 10 of which earned automatic qualification by winning their respective regions.  An addition 22 teams will earn at-large selections.  In addition, the field will be made up of the first seven individuals who were not part of a qualifying team in each of the 10 regions, for a final individual field of 70 runners.

The 2024 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships will be held on Saturday, Nov. 23 at Noon at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in Terre Haute, Indiana and will be hosted by Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
