GREENSBORO, N.C. (Feb. 17, 2024) --The Pfeiffer men's basketball team let a five-point lead slip away and fell 68-67 to rival Greensboro College on the road Saturday.
Sophomore Doug Smith led the Falcons (9-13, 6-8) with eight points, 11 rebounds, four assists and three blocks while junior Daymon Beckwith also tacked on eight points off the bench. Junior Andrew Peacock chipped in eight points from the bench in the losing effort.
Pfeiffer was able to out-rebound Greensboro 38-27 in Saturday's game, led by Smith's 11 boards. The Falcons also collected 11 offensive rebounds and scored 14 second chance points.
How It Happened
After falling behind 9-8, Pfeiffer went on a 6-0 run with 13:58 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Jaylen Hamilton, to take a 14-9 lead. The Falcons then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 32-30 advantage. Pfeiffer did most of its first half damage in the paint, scoring 20 of its 32 points close to the basket.
Pfeiffer kept its lead intact before going on a 5-0 run, finished off by Hamilton's layup, to grow the lead to 62-55 with 4:36 to go in the contest. Greensboro then asserted control, outscoring the Falcons 13-5 the rest of the way to hand Pfeiffer the 68-67 loss. Pfeiffer took care of business in the paint, recording 18 of its 35 points in the lane.
