GREENSBORO, N.C. (Feb. 22, 2024) --The Pfeiffer University men's basketball team fell 75-63 to rival Greensboro College in front of a near capacity crowd at Hanes Gym in the USA South Semifinals on Thursday night.
The Falcons (10-14) had two players score in double figures, led by junior Daymon Beckwith, who had 22 points. Freshman Creed Musick added 14 points from the bench while Doug Smith added four points and a team-best 12 rebounds.
The Pfeiffer offense hit eight threes with Beckwith hitting four treys for the Falcons in the contest.
How It Happened
After jumping out to an 8-7 advantage, Pfeiffer went on a 5-0 run with 10:59 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Musick, to increase its lead to 13-7. The Falcons then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 29-28 advantage. Pfeiffer relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down five shots to account for 15 of its 29 points.
Greensboro proceeded to take a 45-40 lead before Pfeiffer went on a 5-0 run, finished off by Justin Gaten's layup, to even the score at 45 all with 11:35 to go in the contest. The Falcons could not turn their rally into a victory, as the Pride outscored them 30-18 the rest of the way to hand Pfeiffer the 75-63 loss. Pfeiffer got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 20 of its 34 total points.
