Acosta, Rodrigues and Turner Spark Pfeiffer Baseball Past Averett

MISENHEIMER, N.C. (Feb. 29, 2024). --Junior Joish Turner racked up four RBIs to help power the Pfeiffer Falcons over the Averett Cougars 12-3 on Tuesday in Misenheimer, N.C.  The game was completed in Misenheimer after darkness halted the game at Averett on Feb. 27 in Danville, Va.

Senior pitcher Thad Lewis (1-0) got the win for Pfeiffer (2-2). The right-hander went four innings, giving up three runs, one earned, on six hits, allowing three walks while striking out five. Sophomore Joe Javier started the game and threw two shutout innings without allowing a hit, walking none and striking out two.

Turner went 1-for-2 with a home run and two walks in addition to his four RBIs for the Falcons. Sophomore Ryne Rodrigues hit a three-run home run for Pfeiffer.. Javier also chipped in forthe Falcons, putting together three hits in five trips to the plate while adding a triple.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Falcons got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning. Pfeiffer's offense had a good inning, putting three runs on the scoreboard.

The Cougars failed to push any runs across before the Falcons offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. Senior T. Ashby came across to score the lone run of the inning for Pfeiffer, which brought the Falcons lead to 4-0.

Averett narrowed Pfeiffer's lead to 4-3 before the Falcons stretched the advantage to 6-3 in the sixth inning. The Falcons added two to their tally on Turner's two-run homer to right.

Pfeiffer held the Cougars without a run before expanding their lead in the eighth inning. The Falcons scored five runs in the inning, highlighted by a three-run home run off the bat of Rodrigues, bringing the Pfeiffer advantage to 11-3.

The Falcons kept Averett off the board before expanding their lead to 12-3 the following inning. Pfeiffer scored a run when Turner drew a walk from freshman C Garris that scored senior Cory Lackey. The score remained 12-3 for the rest of the game, as the Falcons coasted to the win.

In the originally scheduled game,with the Cougars, senior C.J. Acosta and sophomore Ryne Rodrigues each collected three RBIs to help power the Pfeiffer Falcons over the Averett Cougars 11-6 on Thursday night at Joe Ferebee Field

Senior Nate Callahan (1-0) started on the mound and picked up the win for Pfeiffer (3-2). The right-hander went three shutout innings while giving up two hits, allowing no walks and striking out three. Sophomore Sam Safrit also made an impact on the mound for the Falcons, throwing 2.1 scoreless innings while allowing one hit, with no walks and two strikeouts.

Rodrigues went 3-for-3 at the plate with two walks in addition to his three RBIs and Acosta put together a 2-for-3 day with a double and two walks, supplementing his three RBI performance for the Falcons. Senior Zach Ferrell compiled a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 2-for-5 with a walk and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Falcons got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the bottom of the first inning. Pfeiffer got an RBI single from Rodrigues, scoring junior Josh Turner from third base.

The Falcons then held the Cougars scoreless before expanding their lead in the third inning. which brought the score to 4-0 in favor of the Falcons.

Pfeiffer held Averett scoreless before building their lead to 5-0 the following inning. The Falcons scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Rodrigues.

The Cougars gained ground, closing the gap to 5-4 until Pfeiffer added some insurance in the fifth. The Falcons scored five runs in the inning, highlighted by a two-run double off the bat of Acosta, bringing the Pfeiffer advantage to 10-4.

The Falcons kept Averett off the scoreboard before building on their lead to 11-4 in the seventh inning. Pfeiffer scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Acosta. Averett put two runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Falcons still coasted to the 11-6 win.
