Pfeiffer Baseball Splits Sunday DH With Brevard

MISENHEIMER, N.C. --Junior Josh Turner collected four RBIs to help power the Pfeiffer Falcons past the Brevard Tornados 13-8 in game two of a USA South doubleheader at Joe Ferebee Field on Sunday afternoon..

Freshman Ivan Delp (2-0) started on the mound and picked up the win for Pfeiffer (8-10, 1-5). The right-hander went five innings, giving up five runs, four earned, on eight hits, allowing one walk and striking out one.

Turner went 2-for-4 with a home run in addition to his four RBIs for the Falcons. Senior C.J. Acosta compiled a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 2-for-4 with a home run, a walk and two RBI. Senior Jiwon Yun also chipped in for Pfeiffer,by hitting a two-run home run..

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Falcons scored in six different innings on the way to the win. Pfeiffer broke a 5-5 tie and took the lead for good at 6-5 in the fifth inning The big hit for the Falcons in the inning was a three-run home run off the bat of Turner.

GAME 1
Brevard def. Pfeiffer, 19-9

In game one, Pfeiffer got contributions from every part of their lineup, as all nine starters reached base safely, but the Falcons fell to Brevard by a 19-9 score.

Senior Thad Lewis (1-3) got the ball to start for Pfeiffer (7-10, 0-5) and took the loss.

At the plate, the Falcons were led by junior Wilson Lohrer, who went 3-for-5 on the day with a home run and two RBI. Senior Robbie Brown compiled a noteworthy effort as well, going 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI. Senior Zach Ferrell also chipped in for Pfeiffer, putting together two hits in six trips to the plate while adding a home run and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Falcons got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the bottom of the first inning. Ferrell came across to score the lone run of the inning for Pfeiffer and get them on the board.

The Falcons lost the lead they built in the first, but got back on the board in the fourth trailing 9-1. Ben Barnes came across to score the lone run of the inning for Pfeiffer, which brought the score to 9-2 in favor of the Tornados.

Brevard expanded their lead to 13-2 before the Pfeiffer offense got going, reducing that lead to 13-5 in the fifth. The Falcons scored three times, with an output that included back-to-back homers from Brown and Ferrell.

The Tornados expanded their lead to 15-5 before the Pfeiffer offense got back to work, cutting into that lead in the seventh. The Falcons sent in two runs, including one on a solo round-tripper off the bat of Lohrer, tightening the Brevard lead to 15-7.

The Falcons kept the Tornados off the scoredboard before getting within 15-9 in the eighth. Pfeiffer managed to push across two runs in the inning. The Falcons were unable to get any closer, as Brevard added four runs to their tally on the way to a 19-9 final.
