Pfeiffer Baseball Completes Sweep of MBU With Two Wins on Sunday

GAME 1
Pfeiffer def. Mary Baldwin, 20-4 (7 innings)


GROTTOES, VA --The Pfeiffer Falcons baseball team needed seven innings to get the job done in the 20-4 run-rule victory over the Mary Baldwin Fighting Squirrels Sunday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Falcons scored in six different innings on the way to victory. Pfeiffer jumped on MBU 1-0 in the first inning on a bases-loaded Josh Turner walk from Weatherly that scored Wilson Lohrer.

GAME NOTES
» Thad Lewis struck out five Fighting Squirrels hitters.
» The Falcons had both Ben Barnes and Zach Ferrell crush multiple extra-base hits in the ballgame.
» Barnes and Lohrer drove in at least four runs for Pfeiffer.
» Every Pfeiffer starter reached base safely in the win.

In game two seniors Robbie Brown and Zach Ferrell each collected four hits to help power the Pfeiffer Falcons past the Mary Baldwin Fighting Squirrels 18-2 on Sunday.

In addition to his four hits, Ferrell had a home run and three RBI to lead the Falcons. Brown added a double and two RBI to his four-hit performance as well. Senior C.J. Acosta also contributed for Pfeiffer, putting together one hit in four trips to the plate while adding a home run, a walk and four RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Falcons put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the second inning. Pfeiffer plated two runs when B. Barnes left the yard with Acosta aboard.

The Fighting Squirrels failed to push any runs across before the Falcons offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. Pfeiffer managed to push across two runs in the inning, which brought the score to 4-0 in favor of the Falcons.

Pfeiffer held Mary Baldwin without a run before expanding their lead to 9-0 the following inning. The Falcons bats heated up in the inning, scoring five runs, including a three-run home run off the bat of Acosta.

Pfeiffer held the Fighting Squirrels scoreless before their offense got things rolling the next inning. The Falcons drove home two runs in the frame, the big hit being an RBI double from Wilson Lohrer, bringing the Pfeiffer advantage to 11-0.

Mary Baldwin got within 11-2 until the Falcons scored again in the seventh inning to stretch its lead to 18-2. The Pfeiffer offense piled up seven runs, highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of sophomore Austin Wood and a two-run home run from Ferrell. The score remained 18-2 for the rest of the game, as the Falcons coasted to the win.
