Baseball Falls at Ferrum

FERRUM, Va. (April 23, 2024) --Though they had plenty of opportunities, the Pfeiffer University baseball team struggled to cash them in, leaving 10 runners on base in a 21-6 setback at the hands of the Ferrum Panthers on Tuesday in Ferrum, Va.

Dylan Dula (0-4) got the ball to start for Pfeiffer (16-18) and absorbed the loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 5-0, the Falcons first put runs on the board in the third inning. Thomas Ashby came across to score the lone run of the inning for Pfeiffer and get them on the board.

The Falcons deficit grew to 6-1 before their offense got back on the scoreboard, cutting into that deficit in the fourth inning. The Pfeiffer offense exploded for four runs, highlighted by a three-run double off the bat of Ashby, which brought the score to 6-5 in favor of the Panthers.

The Falcons scored once on an RBI single off the bat o C.J. Acosta in the ninth to provide the 21-6 final.

GAME NOTES
» Pfeiffer's highest scoring inning was the fourth, when it pushed four runs across.
» Pfeiffer left 10 runners stranded on base in the loss.
» Ashby stole two bases in Tuesday's game.
» Pfeiffer pitchers faced 52 Ferrum hitters in the game, allowing nine ground balls and six fly balls while striking out six.
» The Falcons drew six walks from Ferrum pitching.
» Ashby led the Falcons at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI.
» Ferrum was led offensively by senior B. Thomas, who went 4-for-6 with six RBI.

Pfeiffer will head back to Virginia for another nonconference game on Wednesday, April 24 when they travel to Salem, Va. to take on Roanoke College at 4:00 p.m.
