MISENHEIMER, N.C. (April 5, 2024) --Ben Barnes racked up four hits to help propel the Pfeiffer Falcons past the Greensboro Pride 17-3 in the first game of a USA Souther series at Joe Ferebee Field on Friday afternoon.
Sophomore pitcher Jake Blevins (3-3) got the win for Pfeiffer (10-13, 3-7).after going seven innings, giving up three runs on seven hits while striking out five.
Of his four hits, Barnes had a double, a home run and seven RBI to lead the Falcons. Sophomore shortstop Austin Wood also put together a standout day at the plate as well, going 3-for-3 with two walks and three RBI. Sophomore Badin Gusa managed one hit in one trip to the plate while drawing four walks and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Pfeiffer's offense started clicking immediately, putting up six runs, including a two-run double off the bat of senior Thomas Ashby and a two-run single from Barnes.
The Pride gained ground narrowing the lead to 6-3 until the Falcons expanded their advantage in the fourth inning. The Pfeiffer offense exploded for four runs, highlighted by a three-run blast off the bat of Barnes, which brought the score to 10-3 in favor of the Falcons.
Pfeiffer then held Greensboro scoreless before building their lead to 12-3 the following inning.
The Falcons scored five more runs in the sixth inning, highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of Wood and a two-run single from senior C.J. Acosta, bringing the score to 17-3 in favor of Pfeiffer. The score remained 17-3 for the rest of the game, as the Falcons coasted to the win in seven innings.
