Pfeiffer Men Wins Over Rival Greensboro, 65-50

MISENHEIMER, N.C. (Jan. 18, 2025 --The Pfeiffer men's basketball team held rival Greensboro to just 20 percent from 3-point range in a 2-for-10 shooting performance on the way to a 65-50 win over the Pride at home  in Merner Gym on Saturday afternoon.

The Falcons (7-6, 3-2) had four players score in double figures, led by Justin Gaten, who had 12 points. Alex Cunningham added 11 points and Daymon Beckwith helped out with 11 points off of the bench.

Doug Smith pulled down four offensive rebounds to lead the Pfeiffer offense which grabbed 14 boards and turned them into 14 second chance points.  Smith also scored 10 points in the win.  His 10 points and 14 rebounds give him his fifth double-double of the season, which leads the USA South.

Pfeiffer's defense would hold Greensboro to only 20 percent shooting from beyond the arc and just 38.2 percent from the field.

How It Happened
After falling behind 10-8, Pfeiffer went on an 8-0 run with 12:59 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Beckwith, to take the 16-10 lead. The Falcons then added two points to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 32-24 advantage. Pfeiffer got a great contribution from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 18 of its 32 total points.

Pfeiffer kept its lead intact before going on a 10-0 run, finished off by Beckwith's jumper, to grow the lead to 44-28 with 14:24 to go in the contest. The Pride narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Falcons still cruised the rest of the way for the 65-50 win. Pfeiffer made the most of six offensive rebounds to tack on seven second chance points out of 33 total in the period.
