MISENHEIMER, N.C. --The Pfeiffer men's basketball team dropped a 99-77 decision to the visiting and 15th-ranked Christopher Newport Captains at home in Merner Gym on Sunday.
The Falcons (9-7) had two players score in double figures, led by senior Daymon Beckwith, who had 16 points and two steals. Freshman Drake Stewart tacked on 11 points and Daniel Fulp added nine points, seven rebounds and two blocks.
Led by Jaylen Hamilton's three offensive rebounds, Pfeiffer pulled down 10 boards that resulted in eight second chance points.
How It Happened
After jumping out to a 12-7 advantage, Pfeiffer went on an 8-0 run with 15:00 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Beckwith, to increase its lead to 20-7. The Falcons then surrendered that lead and entered halftime down 41-38.
Christopher Newport kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 92-65 advantage before Pfeiffer went on a 5-0 run to shrink the deficit to 92-70 with 1:14 to go in the contest. The Falcons were unable to cut further into the deficit by the end of the game, losing 99-77. Pfeiffer got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 27 of its 39 total points.
