GREENSBORO, N.C. (Feb. 15, 2025) --The Pfeiffer men's basketball team held Greensboro to just 6.7 percent from beyond the arc in a 1-for-15 shooting performance on the way to a 63-50 road win over the Pride in Hanes Gym on Saturday.afternoon.
The Falcons (14-7, 10-2) had three players score in double figures, led by Justin Gaten, who had 11 points. Doug Smith added a double-double with 11 points and 15 rebounds and Daniel Fulp chipped in as well with 10 points.
The double-double for Smith is his league-leading eighth of the season.
Pfeiffer collected 45 rebounds in Saturday's game compared to just 30 for Greensboro', led by Smith's 15 boards. The Falcons also cleaned up the offensive glass, turning 15 rebounds into 12 second chance points.
The Pfeiffer defense held the Greensboro shooters to only a 39.6 percent output from the field. The Pride did not get many second opportunities on the offensive end, as they grabbed only three offensive rebounds all afternoon and scored four second chance points while Pfeiffer pulled down 30 defensive rebounds.
How It Happened
Pfeiffer started out the scoring by going on a 9-0 run, culminating in a three from Gaten, to take an early lead with 18:17 left in the first half. The Falcons then added one point to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 33-23 advantage. Pfeiffer did most of its first half damage in the paint, scoring 20 of its 33 points close to the basket.
Pfeiffer kept its lead intact before going on a 5-0 run, finished off by Daymon Beckwith's three, to grow the lead to 46-36 with 11:26 to go in the contest. The Falcons kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 63-50 win. Pfeiffer took care of business in the paint, recording 16 of its 30 points in the lane.
