Pfeiffer Blows Out Mary Baldwin in Regular Season Finale, 90-63

Falcons to Host USA South Semifinals on Feb. 27

MISENHEIMER, N.C. (Feb. 22, 2025) --The Pfeiffer men's basketball team led by as many as 40 points in a 90-63 blowout of Mary Baldwin in the regular season finale on Saturday afternoon in front of a rowdy Merner Gym crowd.  The win improves Pfeiffer to 10-2 inside Merner Gym this season, including a perfect 7-0 mark in USA South games.

The Falcons (16-7, 12-2) had four players score in double figures, led by senior Alex Cunningham, who had 14 points. Fellow senior Daniel Fulp added 13 points, six rebounds and two steals while junior Doug Smith helped out with 12 points and nine rebounds.

Led by Fulp's four offensive rebounds, Pfeiffer did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 21 boards that resulted in 27 second chance points.

Pfeiffer forced 19 Mary Baldwin turnovers while committing just eight themselves in Saturday's game. The Falcons turned those takeaways into 20 points on the other end of the floor. Clayton Robinson led the way individually with two steals.

How It Happened

After jumping out to a 33-30 advantage, Pfeiffer went on a 6-0 run with 3:23 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Cunningham, to increase its lead to 39-30. The Falcons then maintained that lead and entered halftime with a 41-32 advantage. Pfeiffer did most of its first half damage in the paint, scoring 26 of its 41 points close to the basket.

Following intermission, Pfeiffer kept widening that lead, expanding it to 64-38 before going on a 12-0 run, finished off by Fulp's layup, to grow the lead to 76-38 with 7:36 to go in the contest. The Fighting Squirrels narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Falcons still cruised the rest of the way for the 90-63 win. Pfeiffer took care of business in the paint, recording 26 of its 49 points in the lane.
