GAME 1 | Pfeiffer 14, Mary Baldwin 5
MISENHEIMER, N.C. (April 13, 2025) --Badin Gusa collected four RBIs to help lead the Pfeiffer Falcons over the Mary Baldwin Fighting Squirrels 14-5 in game one of a USA South doubleheader on Sunday at Joe Ferebee Field.
Freshman Levi Barrett (1-2) got the win out of the bullpen for Pfeiffer (10-20, 6-8). The right-hander went five innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on four hits, allowing three walks and striking out six. Freshman Cooper Hyatt also pitched well, going one shutout inning without allowing a hit, walking none and striking out three.
Gusa went 3-for-5 with a double, a home run and a walk in addition to his four RBIs for the Falcons. Sophomore Hunter Huneycutt put together a standout day at the plate as well, going 3-for-6 with a home run and two RBI. Senior Wilson Lohrer also chipped in for Pfeiffer, putting together three hits in five trips to the plate while adding a double, a walk and two RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Falcons scored in seven different innings on the way to victory. Pfeiffer broke a 2-2 tie and took the lead for good at 3-2 in the second inning The big hit for the Falcons in the inning was a one-run flyout off the bat of senior C.J. Acosta.

In game two, senior Jiwon Yun collected four RBIs to help propel the Pfeiffer Falcons past the Mary Baldwin Fighting Squirrels 9-2.
Junior J.D. Basinger (1-4) got the win for Pfeiffer (11-20, 7-8). The right-hander went five innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on five hits, allowing two walks and striking out one. Sophomore Ivan Delp also pitched well, going two shutout innings while allowing one hit, walking none and striking out one.
Yun went 2-for-4 with a double and a home run in addition to his four RBIs for the Falcons. Senior Josh Turner put together a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 1-for-2 with a home run, a walk and three RBI. Senior Hayden Furr also helped out for Pfeiffer, putting together one hit in four trips to the plate while adding a double and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Falcons got on the scoreboard first, starting in the fourth inning. Pfeiffer scored three times, all of them coming across on a three-run homer off the bat of Turner.
The Falcons then lost some of their lead, expanding on their advantage in the fifth inning after the Fighting Squirrels cut it to 3-2. Pfeiffer scored three runs, all of them coming on a three-run homer off the bat of Yun, scoring junior Joe Javier and senior C.J. Acosta, which brought the score to 6-2 in favor of the Falcons.
Pfeiffer held Mary Baldwin scoreless before expanding their lead to 7-2 the following inning. The Falcons recorded a run on Furr's one-out RBI double.
Pfeiffer kept the Fighting Squirrels scoreless before building on their lead in the eighth inning. The Falcons scored two runs in the frame, the big hit being an RBI double from Yun, bringing the Pfeiffer advantage to 9-2. The score remained 9-2 for the rest of the game, as the Falcons coasted to the win.
