ASHEBORO, N.C. (May, 1, 2025) -- The Pfeiffer baseball team saw their season come to a close after suffering a pair of defeats at the USA South baseball tournament at McCrary Park in Asheboro, N.C.
Joe Javier went 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI for the Pfeiffer Falcons in an 11-4 loss to the Brevard Tornados on Thursday in the first game of the day.
Thad Lewis (5-4) started and absorbed the loss on the mound for Pfeiffer (14-25).
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Falcons were trailing 2-0 in the fifth inning when they first put runs on the board. Pfeiffer plated two runs when C. Merrill left the yard with C. Acosta aboard.
The Tornados then scored one run to retake their advantage heading into the sixth inning, when the Falcons responded by getting back on the scoreboard themselves. H. Huneycutt came across to score the lone run of the inning for Pfeiffer, which evened the score at 3-3.
Brevard broke that tie and grabbed an 11-3 lead moving into the ninth, when Pfeiffer narrowed the gap to 11-4. The ballgame ended with that ninth inning rally falling short.

In the second game of the day against No. 2 seed Greensboro, C.J. Acosta racked up three extra base hits and Javier added two more, but the Pfeiffer Falcons fell to the Greensboro Pride 14-12 on Thursday, ending the season.
Sam Safrit (0-1) took the loss on the mound for Pfeiffer (14-26). J. Eason was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going four innings, surrendering one run on four hits.
Acosta's three extra base hits were the highlight of a 3-for-4 day, and included two doubles, a triple, a walk and two RBI. Javier made his contribution with two doubles and an RBI, part of a 3-for-6 performance at the plate. J. Yun also chipped in for the Falcons, putting together one hit in four trips to the plate while adding a home run and three RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 11-0, the Falcons first put runs on the board in the fourth inning. Pfeiffer scored three runs in the frame, highlighted by a two-run homer from L. Barrett.
The Falcons kept the Pride off the board before narrowing the gap further in the fifth. The Pfeiffer offense exploded for four runs, highlighted by a three-run home run off the bat of Yun, which brought the score to 11-7 in favor of the Pride.

The Pride expanded their lead to 12-8 before the Pfeiffer offense got back in action, evening it up in the eighth. The Falcons scored four runs in the inning, highlighted by a one-run single off the bat of A. Wood, tying the score at 12-12. Greensboro then scored two times over the remaining one inning to break the tie and grab the 14-12 win.
