MISENHEIMER, N.C. (Feb. 9, 2026)— Pfeiffer's strong start and a career night from
Miya Horton weren't enough Monday night as the Falcons fell 70–67 to N.C. Wesleyan in a USA South women's basketball matchup at Merner Gym.
Pfeiffer (11-9, 8-5 USA South) stormed out to a 23-15 lead after the first quarter, powered by Horton's relentless attacking at the rim. The sophomore guard finished with a game-high 24 points on 11-for-18 shooting while adding two steals. The Falcons dominated early in transition and in the paint, piling up 18 first-quarter points inside and forcing seven Bishop turnovers.
Ava Hairston added 13 points, seven rebounds and five steals, giving Pfeiffer consistent energy on both ends.
Lettie Michael chipped in eight points, including a key second-quarter three, while
Peyton McPeters provided interior toughness with seven rebounds, two blocks and four points off the bench.
But despite leading at halftime and entering the fourth quarter ahead 55–53, the Falcons struggled to slow N.C. Wesleyan's late push. The Bishops converted 9 of 12 free throws in the final period and took the lead for good on Alexandria Belton's layup with 4:55 remaining.
Pfeiffer pulled within one on Hairston's putback with 23 seconds to go, but N.C. Wesleyan sealed the game at the line in the final seconds.
The Falcons shot 26 of 61 from the field and forced 25 turnovers, turning them into 22 points, but were outscored 17–12 in the fourth quarter and had difficulty containing the Bishops' balanced scoring.
Pfeiffer will have a short turnaround, as they host Methodist on Wednesday, Feb. 11 as part of a doubleheader with the Pfeiffer men's team. Tipoff with the Monarchs is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
