Pfeiffer Splits Offensive-Heavy Doubleheader With Averett
MISENHEIMER, N.C. — Pfeiffer University opened Saturday's doubleheader with an explosive offensive performance but couldn't slow Averett in the finale, settling for a split at Joe Ferebee Field.
Game 1: Pfeiffer 9, Averett 8
Pfeiffer (3–7) outslugged Averett in the opener, scoring three runs in both the third and ninth innings to secure a back-and-forth 9-8 victory.
Levi Barrett powered the Falcons' offense, going 2-for-5 with a double, a home run and three RBIs, including a walk-off blast in the ninth.
Jack Brandle added three hits with a two-run homer, while
Austin Wood and
Joe Javier each turned in multi-hit efforts.
Starter
James Eason struck out seven over 5 2/3 innings, and the bullpen combination of
Cameron Cooper and
Dylan Dula held on late, with Dula earning the win.
Game 2: Averett 14, Pfeiffer 5
Pfeiffer again struck early in the nightcap, erupting for five first-inning runs, highlighted by a three-run double from Barrett, who finished the day with six RBIs across both games.
But Averett responded with 13 unanswered runs, capitalizing on nine walks and 16 hits against the Falcons' pitching staff.
Ben Mecimore collected two of Pfeiffer's seven hits, while
Christian Bellantoni and Connor Coy each added RBI opportunities.
Starter
Jake Blevins battled through six innings but absorbed the loss after Averett broke the game open with a four-run sixth and a six-run ninth.
Falcons Show Offensive Potential
Across the twinbill, Pfeiffer totaled 22 hits, with Barrett, Brandle, and Wood delivering consistent production in the heart of the lineup. The Falcons also turned multiple key defensive plays, including a pair of double-play turns in the second game.
The Falcons and Averett will play the rubber match of their three-game set on Sunday afternoon, March 1 with first pitch scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
