MISENHEIMER, N.C. (April 21, 2026) —
Austin Wood and
Joe Javier drove in two runs apiece and Pfeiffer used a balanced attack and a combined shutout to rout Southern Virginia 10-0 in a USA South Conference game Tuesday at Joe Ferebee Field.
The game was game three of the late March USA South series held in Buena Vista, Va. that was hampered by inclement weather.
The Falcons (20-16, 13-5 USA South) broke the game open with four runs in the third inning, added another four in the sixth and tacked on single runs in the seventh and ninth. Pfeiffer finished with eight hits, drew seven walks and was hit four times, taking advantage of three Southern Virginia errors.
Wood went 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs, while Javier was 2-for-5 with an RBI.
Ben Mecimore added a two-run single, and
Josh Jones chipped in an RBI as Pfeiffer scored without hitting a home run.
Javier (1-0) earned the win on the mound, allowing just one hit over five scoreless innings. He walked two and struck out two. The Falcons' bullpen made the shutout stand, as
Cayman Buck,
Xander Johnson,
Jackson Lancaster and
Mason Mosteller combined for four scoreless innings, limiting the Knights to four additional hits.
Southern Virginia (11-25, 8-10) managed five hits but stranded eight runners. Seth Lloyd and Garrett Stauffer each doubled for the Knights. Tyler Bales took the loss after allowing four runs in the third inning.
The win keeps Pfeiffer in a first-place tie with rival Greensboro College entering the final weekend of the regular season.
The Falcons will step out of conference for the final time this season, as they head to take on Roanoke College on Wednesday, April 22. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at Sherman Carter Memorial Stadium on the campus of Radford University.
Pfeiffer won the previous meeting between the two teams by a 12-3 score back on April 8 in Misenheimer.
