Pfeiffer Wraps Up Year with Conference Titles, NCAA Appearances

The spring sports season for Pfeiffer Athletics lasted well past commencement exercises for four spring teams, as the Falcons wrapped up the academic year producing six more conference championships and appearances in national tournaments and events.

With championships in men's lacrosse, softball, baseball and men's track and field, the Falcons made it 10 conference championships in the 2025-26 academic year. Pfeiffer also claimed titles in men's soccer (regular season), men's cross-country, men's indoor track and field, and men's basketball (regular season).

Men's Lacrosse

The Falcons bounced back from a non-conference home loss to win 13 games in a row, including two in the USA South Tournament.

Pfeiffer claimed both the regular-season and tournament championships this season, hosting the USA South tourney for the fourth straight season.

The Falcons went undefeated in conference play for the third straight season, extending an overall conference regular-season win streak to 27.

Pfeiffer claimed three of the top four postseason honors from the USA South: Player of the Year (Ethan Miles), Defensive Player of the Year (Michael Keane) and Coach of the Year (Tucker Nelson).

First-team All-Conference selections included attackers Miles and Tiger Hopkins, midfielders Trent Orr and Davis Palombo, defenders Keane and Hayden Polakowski, goalie Korbin Hamilton, long stick Luc Danis and short-stick defensive midfielder Ezequel Ceant.

Second-team selections representing the Falcons included attacker Dylan Sullivan, midfielder Bashwyn Fitch, defender Christian Daniels, and faceoff specialist Lee Caldwell.

Pfeiffer also earned the school's second NCAA Div. III national tournament win in the past four years with a 15-8 home win this season against Transylvania.

The Falcons finished with a 16-3 overall record this season.

Softball

Head coach Monte Sherrill and the Falcons claimed the program's fourth straight regular season and tournament championships this season.

The Falcons won the last 18 games of the regular season in a row to claim the regular-season title, then bounced back from a loss to No. 4 Greensboro in the tournament to beat the Pride twice. Pfeiffer then swept N.C. Wesleyan in the championship series to earn a trip to the NCAA Tournament.

Pfeiffer earned three of the top five honors in the USA South Conference: Player of the Year (Landry Stewart, for the second year in a row), Rookie of the Year (Heather Vaughn) and Rookie Pitcher of the Year (Abby Bowman).

The Falcons also had First Team All-Conference selections at first base (Vaughn), second base (Natalie Auman), catcher (Kirstyn Herman), utility (Bulla), outfield (Stewart), and pitcher (Bowman), and Second Team selections at shortstop (Ky Perdue) and outfield (E.A. Nance). Micah Felts was named to the USA South Sportsmanship Team.

In the NCAA Div. III tournament, the Falcons lost to Manhattanville, but responded the next day with wins over John Jay and Manhattanville to reach the regional finals. Pfeiffer lost to undefeated Virginia Wesleyan, the No. 1 overall seed, in a 3-2 loss, just the second time this season the Marlins had won by one run.

Four Falcons were named to the NCFA All Region V. Vaughn, Stewart and Mollie Bulla being named First Team and Bowman was Third Team.

Baseball

Head coach Craig Bolton and the Falcons earned the program's first USA South conference tournament championship and NCAA Div. III tournament win in the program's 60-plus year history this season.

Finishing second in the regular-season standings, the Falcons hosted Methodist and Southern Virginia in one of two brackets in the USA South Tournament, earning two wins to advance to the best-of-three finals series against No. 5 William Peace.

The Falcons then swept the Pacers 17-7 and 6-0 to win the tournament crown and a bid into the NCAA Tournament.

After losing the team's opening game to host Johns Hopkins, the No. 9 team in the nation in D-III baseball, the Falcons earned the school's first NCAA Div. III tourney win 8-6 versus No. 34 overall rank Mary Washington to eliminate the Eagles from the tourney.

Pfeiffer then took on Pomona-Pitzer and led 5-0 early before being eliminated from the tournament by the Sagehens.

The Falcons had two players earn top honors from the USA South Conference. James Eason was named the USA South's Pitcher of the Year while freshman Cameron Cooper earned Rookie Pitcher of the Year honors.

Pfeiffer also had several players named All-Conference, including first-team selections Jack Brandle (1B), Ben Mecimore (C), and Eason (SP). Cooper was named Second Team All-USA South as a relief pitcher, while Christian Bellatoni was named to the Sportsmanship Team.

Men's Track and Field

Head coach Bob Marchinko and the Falcons claimed the program's second straight USA South Conference championship and had appearances and strong finishes nationally. 

The Falcons posted 280 team points, which according to available records is the highest point total for a men's track and field team in the history of the USA South Conference meet, besting the previous mark of 269 from Southern Virginia in 2023.

Pfeiffer took three individual awards at the conference meet. Marchinko was named coach of the meet, and Bricen Burleson was named Track Athlete of the meet, taking first place in the 8,000-meter run (1:55.07) and 1,500-meter run (4:00.94).

Drake Stewart was named the meet's top field athlete, winning the long jump (6.84 meters) and high jump (1.95 m), and placing second in the 400-meter hurdles (54.13 seconds). Stewart also took third in the triple jump with a distance of 13.83 meters.

Cannon Powell also won two conference titles in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:59) and the 10,000-meter run (32:52).

Jordan Jones dominated the sprint events, taking first in the 100-meter dash, setting a conference meet record and all-time mark in 10.42 seconds. He also took third in the 200-meter run in 21.77 seconds.

Cameron Ritchie's time of 54.13 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles set a conference meet, a USA South and a Pfeiffer record. He also set another Pfeiffer mark with his time of 15.21 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles, finishing third at the USA South meet.

T'Andre Palmer also set a school and conference record in the 400-meter run with a time of 48 seconds flat.

The Falcons' relay team in the 4x400 meter run (Jonathan Moran-Sanchez, Carson Ritchie, Cameron Ritchie and Palmer set a school record of 3:16.48, good for second at the meet. Pfeiffer's quartet of Michael Chapman, Owen Deaton, Moran-Sanchez and Jones set a Pfeiffer record in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 41.60 seconds, good for third at the USA South meet.

On the field side, Alec Paraiso won the javelin title with a throw of 49.33 meters (161 feet, 10 inches) setting a Pfeiffer record.

Jones later represented Pfeiffer at the NCAA Div. III Outdoor Championships in Lacrosse, Wisconsin. He earned First Team All-American honors placing fifth in the 200-meter dash, and was Second Team All-American in the 100-meter dash.
