Nick Richmond Making Strides In Rookie League Play With the Detroit Tigers Organization

Misenheimer, N.C. (July 26, 2019) – Former Pfeiffer University pitcher Nick Richmond has made his mark after being signed by the Detroit Tigers on July 1.

Richmond, 21, joined the GCL Tigers West team in Lakeland, Fla. on July 10 after playing for the Wareham Gatemen in the prestigious Cape Cod League, a wooden-bat league that hosts the top amateur baseball prospects each summer.

Richmond's first outing with the Tigers came on July 13 where he pitched 1.0 inning and allowed a walked against the GCL Phillies East.  Later that week, he earned the first save of his professional career, throwing an inning while striking out two batters in a 3-0 win over the GCL Tigers East.

He would make his third appearance on July 19, registering three strikeouts in two innings of work in helping his team to a 5-2 win over the GCL Phillies West.

To date, his team stands in second-place of the GCL North Division with a 13-9 overall record, just two games behind the GCL Phillies West.

The Gulf Coast League is a rookie-level league that plays a 60-game season from mid-June through late August.  Teams primarily play in the spring training facilities of their parent Major League teams.
