Pfeiffer Men's Basketball Opens 2018-19 Season at Home on Saturday

Misenheimer, N.C. (Nov. 9, 2018) –The Pfeiffer University men's basketball team will open the 2018-19 campaign with a home game on Saturday, Nov. 10 against Bob Jones University.

The Falcons, under the direction of first-year head coach Pete Schoch, are coming off a 21-4 season in 2017-18 that saw Pfeiffer win 12 games by 30 or more points.

The Falcons are looking to continue their high-octane style of play, looking to better their average of 110 points-per-game from last season.

Returning for Pfeiffer is sophomore guard Blake Smith (Wilmington, N.C.).  Last season, Smith averaged 9.6 ppg. while shooting 54.2% from long range and 52.3% from the field.  In addition to Smith, sophomore Craig Sabb (Goose Creek, S.C.) returns after shooting 52.9% from the field last season.

The Falcons also return the top rebounder last season in Nolan Whitener (Vale, N.C.).  Whitener corralled a team-best 149 rebounds last season, including 65 offensive boards to go along with 10 blocks.  He also managed 6.4 points per game while playing in 25 games, starting in 12.  Also returning is junior guard Josiah Avington (Fredericksburg, Va.). Last season, Avington logged 16.2 minutes per game and shot 39.6% from the field and 38.2% from three-point range.

In all, Pfeiffer returns nine players from last year's squad and also welcomes nine newcomers.

Kyle Riddley (Charlotte, N.C.), a senior transfer from USA South foe Greensboro, dons the black and yellow for Pfeiffer after averaging 14.1 ppg. while shooting 45.9% from the field and 42.6% from long-range while playing in nine games for the Pride.

Gabe Miller (Norfolk, Va.) also returns after playing in 18 games for the Falcons last season. He is expected to contribute significantly in the Falcon backcourt.

Bob Jones enters the game at 0-3 on the season, dropping their first three games to Montreat (87-78) at Johnson University (98-71) at Division I Furman (102-48).  The Bruins are led by Chapman Haywood, as he is averaging 17.0 ppg. over the early portion of the season.

Tipoff against the Bruins is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 10 at 3:00 p.m. in Merner Gym.
