Austin Nets Hat Trick but No. 1 Saints Overpower Falcons

GAFFNEY, S.C. - The Pfeiffer men's lacrosse team (6-5, 2-2 CC) was overpowered by the No. 1 team in the nation as Limestone (13-0, 3-0) remained undefeated on the season with a convincing 19-5 win at Saints Field on Saturday afternoon. Limestone used a 10-goal second quarter to cruise to the victory and hand Pfeiffer its fifth loss in their last seven games.

The Saints ran out to an early 4-0 lead after the first quarter but the Pfeiffer defense managed to keep Limestone scoreless over the final 5:14 of the opening frame. Kyle Rhatigan started the scoring barrage in the second quarter as he struck to put Limestone up 5-0. In a 4:04 span, Limestone scored five times and pushed the lead to 11-0. Back-to-back Pfeiffer goals from Ben Austin and Derek Thomas slowed the Saints but Limestone scored the final three of the quarter to take a 14-2 advantage into the break.

In the second half, Pfeiffer played Limestone tough and were only outscored 5-3 over the final 30 minutes of action. Austin scored twice and Ryan Cummings added a man up goal for Pfeiffer.

Austin finished the game with three goals on three shots and added two ground balls. Thomas added a goal and an assist to go along with two ground balls.

Mike Moorehead and Connor Sharkey each made six saves in goal as the two split the contest in net for Pfeiffer. Patrick Sheridan improved to 13-0 in goal for the Saints.

Kevin Reisman dominated face offs on the day, winning 20-of-21 attempts and grabbing a game-high 13 ground balls.

On the day, Pfeiffer held Limestone to just 2-for-7 on the man advantage and forced Limestone into 18 turnovers. The Falcons converted on 1-of-5 extra man opportunities on the afternoon.

The Falcons return to action on Wednesday night as they host Catawba in non-conference action at 7 p.m.
