Pfeiffer Men's Soccer Opens Season With 3-1 Win Over Virginia Wesleyan
Newport News, Va. (Aug. 31, 2018) – The Pfeiffer University men's soccer team opened the 2018 season with a 3-1 win over Virginia Wesleyan in Newport News, Va. on Friday afternoon.
The Falcons (1-0) got on the board first when Jonathan Quintero (Mooresville, N.C.) slid a shot into the right side of the goal in the 22nd minute after taking a pass from
Christopher Brown (Snead's Ferry, N.C.).
Virginia Wesleyan knotted the score at 1-1 when Ricky Perrault scored in the 58th minute on a shot from 25-yards out.
Pfeiffer would answer in the 68th minute, when Caleb Brateger (Wake Forest, N.C.) scored on a one-timer from in front of the goalkeeper, with Haile Eve (Sandy's Bermuda) credited with the assist, providing what would be the game-winner. Brateger would add another tally in the 73rd minute, this time on a rebound, to provide the 3-1 final.
The Falcons outshot Virginia Wesleyan 13-9 on the match.
Goalkeeper Jacob Hill (Holly Springs, N.C.) faced nine shots, four of which were on goal. On the night, Hill finished with three saves and notched his first win of the year.
The Falcons will stay in Newport News, taking on Christopher Newport on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
