Covenant Downs Pfeiffer Men's Soccer, 4-0
Lookout Mountain, Ga. – Covenant College scored two goals in each half to down the Pfeiffer University men's soccer team 4-0 on Saturday afternoon.
Covenant's Mercer Stout scored his USA South-leading seventh goal of the season that gave Covenant the lead for good in the 13th minute of play. Stout collected a deflection off a Falcon defender and scored from just inside the box for his fourth eventual game-winning goal of the season.
The Scots lead extended to 2-0 less than a minute later when Josh Brewer drew a foul in the box. Teammate Jesse Riggs converted a penalty kick for Covenant.
Brower would get on the board and put the Scots into a commanding 3-0 lead in the 54th minute. His goal came after the ball was played into the box and then found space towards the top before getting his shot past Falcon keeper David Chavarria (Franklinville, N.C.) for the goal.
Covenant added an insurance goal in the 79th minute when Austin Berry scored after a ricochet from his initial shot attempt, then buried the second chance from outside the box to provide the eventual 4-0 final.
As a team, Pfeiffer managed six shots on the day and were led by Diego Moran (Flushing, N.Y.) as he registered two shots.
