Falcons and Cougars Battle to 2-2 Draw

Pfeiffer Men's Soccer Battles to 2-2 Draw at Averett

Danville, Va. (Oct. 23, 2019)
– The Pfeiffer University men's soccer team fought to a 2-2 draw at Averett University on Wednesday afternoon at Campbell Stadium in Danville, Va.

Averett went up 1-0 in the 25th minute as the beneficiary of an own goal by the Falcons.  Following a Cougar corner kick, a Falcon defender leaped to clear the ball, but it skimmed off his head and into the back corner of the goal, giving the Cougars the lead on an own goal.

However, Pfeiffer responded in the 37th minute when Caleb Bratager (Wake Forest, N.C.) netted his 10th goal of the year on passes from Shawn Jorgenson (Winston-Salem, N.C.) and Caz Dabrowski (Fuquay-Varina, N.C.), tying the match at 1-1.

Pfeiffer went ahead 2-1 less than three minutes later when Dabrowski scored his third of the season off a 15-yard blast, a lead the Falcons would hold at the halftime break.

Averett tied the match at 2-2 at the 67:21 mark when Patrick Miller beat the Falcon goalkeeper after taking a corner to the far post.

The 2-2 score would remain throughout regulation, sending the match to overtime.  Pfeiffer's Jorgenson had a shot on goal at 91:14 that resulted in a save, as did teammate Kyle Kamm (Sneads Ferry, N.C.).  Kamm's header off a corner kick at 94:42 was also saved.

Averett had a header of their own, but David Chavarria (Franklinville, N.C.) made the save, with the match going to the second overtime.

In the second overtime, Averett outshot the Falcons 3-1, but none made it through, with the match ending in the 2-2 deadlock.

Pfeiffer now stands at 6-9-1 on the year and 4-7-1 in USA South play while Averett is now 5-10-2 and 3-7-2 in conference play.
