LaGrange Tops Pfeiffer Men's Soccer, 4-3 in Season Finale
Misenheimer, N.C. (Oct. 26, 2019) – Visiting LaGrange College got three goals and an assist from Erick Sturm and a goal from Enrique Hernandez and held off a determined Pfeiffer second half effort to take a 4-3 win over the Falcons at Lefko Field on Saturday.
Sturm opened the scoring for the Panthers in the 38th minute on a penalty kick when the Falcons were whistled for a foul inside the box. Sturm's shot beat Falcon goalkeeper David Chavarria to the right to provide the 1-0 lead.
In the second half, LaGrange struck again this time off the foot of Hernandez in the 48th minute. Sturm delivered the pass and Hernandez provided the finish to the top left corner of the goal to make it 2-0.
Sturm struck again at the 55:48 mark on a give-and-go opportunity, this time on a pass from Blake Webb, pushing the Panther lead to 3-0.
Pfeiffer trimmed the lead to 3-1 at 57:07 when junior Caz Dabrowski (Fuquay-Varina, N.C.) scored on a free kick from Diego Moran (Flushing, N.Y.). Dabrowski receive the pass and was able to deliver a header in traffic that pushed past LaGrange goalkeeper Gian Dev near the left post.
LaGrange countered, scoring again at the 65:07 mark. This time, Sturm took a sideline pass from Webb, finishing the play and extending the Panther lead to 4-1.
A penalty kick from Moran found the mark in the 73rd minute bringing the Falcons to within 4-2. Pfeiffer then made it 4-3 with a Caleb Bratager (Wake Forest, N.C.) goal, his team-leading 11th of the season at 89:15 on a pass from Jonathan Gonzalez (Asheboro, N.C.).
The Falcons would get no further opportunities to get the tying goal, with LaGrange taking the 4-3 win.
The loss concludes the Falcons' season at 6-10-1 overall and 4-8-1 in USA South play while LaGrange improves to 6-10-1 and 5-7-1 in league play.
