PALMETTO, SC – The Pfeiffer Falcon men's and women's tennis teams competed in the Palmetto Invitational on Sunday as women's top singles player Olivia Nelms and Men's tennis player David Weir took home singles championships.
In the finals of the Women's Class A Singles division, Nelms defeated Alexandra Boubin of Limestone, 6-4, 6-3.
In the Class D Singles division, Junior David Weir defeated four other Conference Carolinas players. After a first set 5-7 loss, Weir came back and defeated 7-6, 10-7. Weir got a second round win as he went through Edmundo de Toree of North Greenville, 6-1, 6-4. In the semis a defeat of Enrique Moreno 6-3, 6-3 to propel him into the finals and take another Limestone player and go on to defeat Giacomo Campus in straight sets for 6-1, 6-3 championship win.
In other women's action, senior Mylene Petipas had two big wins as she defeated Jennifer Ball of Southern Wesleyan 6-2, 1-6, 10-8 in the first round of the Women's Class A division. In the second round, Petitpas went on to defeat Belmont Abbey's Teagan McNamara, 6-3, 6-2.
In other Class D Singles division play, ShaNisha White had a first round win over Southern Wesleyan's Anne-Marie Martin, 6-0, 6-1. The junior would go onto lose her second round match to Dana Kelly of Barton, 6-2, 6-3.
Women's Class F saw Madison Hatley picked up a first round consolation win over Convere's Patricia Dubose, 6-0, 6-2
In the Men's Class A singles division, senior Axel Woerner picked up a first round win over Dion Nijboer of North Greenville, 6-1, 6-4. In the second round, Woerner fell to Jake McCartney of Barton, 0-6, 4-6.
Junior Thomas Hubble competed in Men's Class C Singles and picked up wins over over NGU's Alex Sanches, 6-7, 6-0, 15-13 and Garrett Lackey of Lees McRae 6-4, 7-6 but fell to Ermanno Galimberti of Barton, 6-4, 6-4 in the semi finals
Men's Class B Doubles saw Weir and senior Bradley Batten pick up a first round win over Dodson and Alacer of Emmanuel, 8-3. Men's Class C Doubles Eduan Louw and Speight picked up a consolation win over Emmanuel's White and Noris, 8-6.
The Pfeiffer men are in action on Thursday as they host Catawba at 2 p.m. The women will play on Tuesday, September 27th at 2 p.m. as they will host the Indians as well.
