Falcons Open Their Season At The JDL Kick-off Classic; Chavers Finishes 4th In Weight Throw

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - On Saturday,  the Pfeiffer Falcons opened up their indoor portion of their track and field season as they competed in the JDL Kick-off Classic. The Falcons were one of a few Division III  schools present, but their main competition was against former Division II foes and Division I athletes.

The day was highlighted by thrower Matt Chavers as he placed fourth in the weight throwing event. Chavers best throw of 16.26 meters was just short of three other athletes from the Division II level. With that throw, the senior from Culpeper, Virginia qualifies himself the ECAC championships.

In the 200 meters Keshon Roman, Jaden Roserie and Keyshawn Campbell all finished with notable performances. Roman was the top Pfeiffer runner in the event with a 46th place finish with a time of 23.77. Just behind was Roserie as he finished 50th with a time of 24.17. Four spots behind was Campbell with a time of 24.28.

Roman also qualified for ECAC championships in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.11.

Devon Williams finished just short of two Falcon school records in the 800 meter and one mile run as he finished with times of 2:02.8 and 4:43.60 respectively.

Out of 68 competitors in the 400 meters, Falcons Xavier Huntley, Dontavious Monroe and Colby Alvins turned in respectable times. Huntley's time of 54.12 for a 38th place finish. Monroe and Alvins finished back-to-back at 50 and 51 with times of 55.64 and 55.98 respectively.

For the women,  Jayde Kemp  finished the 800 meters 27th our of 50 with a time of 2:37.71

In 3000 meters, Cassidy Hooper was Pfeiffer's top runner with a 16th place finish out of 26 with at time of 11:33.35. Her time broke the Falcon's school record in the event.

With a throw of 10.33 meters, ChyAnn Ketchum competed the shot put and took 21st out of 49 throwers.

Chevy Blaire finished half way down the list of throwers in the weight throw event with a throw of 12.65 meters. The freshman's throw was just short of another school record

Pfeiffer returns to the same track on January 20th as they compete at the Wake Forest Invitational.
