HARTSVILLE, SC - The Pfeiffer softball team (13-1) swept a doubleheader at the Coker Spring Invitational today to improve on their best start in school history. The Falcons have won 13 of their first 14 with today's sweep of Fairmont St. and Lander.

Sydney Poole tossed a three-hitter in game one this afternoon as the Falcons scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to defeat Fairmont St. 2-1. In the second game, Pfeiffer scored three times in the eighth inning to defeat Lander 6-3 for their fourth extra inning victory on the season.

Against Fairmont St., the only run Poole would allow was in the top of the first inning. After that, the senior would settle in and retire 15 of the last 18 batters in the contest. Poole's final line was three hits, two walks and seven strikeouts as she improved to 5-0 on the year.

However, it looked like the gem from Poole would go to waste with the Falcons being held scoreless through the first five innings. In the bottom of the sixth, Kaleigh Troutman drew a one-out walk and moved to second on Chandler Walker's infield single. Emma Tuttle's sacrifice bunt attempt was fielded by the catcher whose throw sailed into right field and allowed both Walker and Troutman to score as Pfeiffer grabbed the 2-1 advantage.

Poole shut the door on Fairmont St. (0-1) in the top of the seventh to improve Pfeiffer's win streak to eight straight.

The Falcons struck early against Lander (5-8) in game two, scoring once in the top of the first inning on an RBI single from Kiana Millsaps.

In the top of the fifth, Pfeiffer's all-time leader in home runs would add another to her total as Rachel Crowder crushed her 20th long ball to put Pfeiffer up 2-0.

Lander cut the lead to 2-1 in the bottom half of the fifth before Millsaps drove in Crowder with her second RBI single of the game to give Pfeiffer a 3-1 advantage.

With one out and one on in the bottom of the seventh, Lander's Chandler Carey crushed a pinch hit home run to even the game at three and send it to extra innings.

However, Pfeiffer is battled tested in extra frames and scored three runs on two hits and one error in the top of the eighth to take a commanding 6-3 advantage.

Kennedy Lester got the side in order in the bottom of the eighth to pick up her third win of the year. Lester tossed 1.2 innings of scoreless relief behind freshman Caitlin Christian who allowed three runs in 6.1 innings.

The Falcons look to continue their winning ways on Sunday with a doubleheader against Lincoln Memorial (9 a.m.) and Columbus St. (1 p.m.) in the final day of the Coker Spring Invitational.
