ROANOKE, VA – It was a tale of two games for the Pfeiffer softball team (12-2) who split a doubleheader with Roanoke (5-3) on Monday afternoon. The Falcons dropped game one by a score of 12-5 but stormed back to win the finale 10-4.
The Maroons got to starting pitcher Kiana Millsaps in the opener, plating eight runs in the first two innings. The Falcons trailed 12-1 heading into the top of the fifth but didn't surrender. Millsaps doubled to left and Makenzie Pennell drove her in with a single. Amanda Sports followed with an RBI triple and then scored on a wild pitch. However, the rally wasn't enough as the Falcons fell.
Sports was the standout in the opener, going 3-for-4 with a run scored to go with her RBI triple.
The offense awoke in a big way in game two as the Falcons pounded out 11 hits and pushed across six runs in the sixth inning.
The sixth run sixth inning started with a single by freshman catcher Sara Brown. Brown would score on an RBI single from Kari Westerbeek. After a walk by Vada Blue Sherrill, Chandler Walker smacked a two-run triple to right center. Pennell tripled to score one and Stephanie Fortner doubled to plate the final run of the inning.
Walker finished the game with three hits in four at-bats and tripled twice. The senior drove in three and scored once.
Kennedy Lester improved to 3-0 in the circle, tossing four innings while allowing two runs.
The game one loss halted the Falcons seven-game winning streak. However, the Falcons look to start a new streak when they travel to Johnson C. Smith on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
