MISENHEIMER, N.C. – On senior day in the village, the Pfeiffer softball team (24-2) swept a pair of five-inning games against Mary Baldwin (1-19) on Friday afternoon. With the wins, Pfeiffer improves to 70-10 over their last 80 games as a program and runs its winning streak to 13 in a row.
On a day where the senior class was honored, senior Stephanie Fortner struck the biggest blow of the day. The leftfielder came up with the bases loaded in the bottom of the second in game one and crushed a grand slam over the left field fence. For Fortner, it marked her fourth home run of the season and fifth of her career.
Fellow senior Chandler Walker went 2-for-3 with an RBI the day after breaking the program record for hits. Walker added a double and senior Amanda Sports drew a walk and stole a base. Senior Bailey Sherrill was 1-for-1 with a run scored and senior Abi Peck went 1-for-3 with a run scored.
Sophomore Makenzie Pennell was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI in the game one victory.
Kiana Millsaps improved to 15-2 in the circle by tossing four shutout innings and striking out four batters. Millsaps allowed just two baserunners and threw 35 of her 55 pitches for strikes.
In the finale, senior Kennedy Lester improved to 9-0 on the year by firing 4.2 innings of shutout ball with nine strikeouts and just one walk. Lester threw 51 of her 83 pitches for strikes and posted a career-high in strikeouts.
The Falcons return to action on Sunday when they host Ferrum at 1 p.m.
