MISENHEIMER, N.C. – The Pfeiffer softball team (27-3) dominated a doubleheader with Livingstone (0-9), winning by scores of 13-0 and 12-0 on Wednesday afternoon. In game two, four pitchers combined for a perfect game against the Blue Bears in the five-inning game.
Vada Blue Sherrill crushed three home runs in the doubleheader and now has 15 bombs on the season. To put that into perspective, heading into this season the all-time home run leader in team history had 20 long balls.
Sherrill's 58 runs batted in this year is already a team record and her .536 batting average is tops by .143. In her 97 at-bats, she has struck out just two times.
Stephanie Fortner also clubbed a home run in the opener and finished with four RBI's. Sherrill finished the opener with six RBI's and three runs scored.
The pitching dominated game two, Kennedy Lester, Kiana Millsaps, Kari Westerbeerk and Kendra Mayes combined to retire all 15 batters, striking out eight of them. Lester, the starter, struck out three in her 1.2 innings of work and Millsaps punched out four in her two innings.
The Pfeiffer offense pounded out nine extra-base hits, including three triples. Amanda Sports doubled and tripled and finished with two runs scored and two RBI's.
Sherrill would finish the doubleheader by going a perfect 5-for-5 with five runs scored, three homers and 10 runs batted in.
Today's DH wrapped up a 12-game home streak for the Falcons who went 11-1 in that stretch. The Falcons now hit the road for a matchup with Methodist starting at 2 p.m. on Friday.
