FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Pfeiffer softball team (29-3) dominated a doubleheader at Methodist (8-28) on Friday afternoon, winning by scores of 9-0 and 12-0.
In game one, Kiana Millsaps was the star, both with the bat and in the pitcher's circle. Millsaps crushed a 3-run home run in the top of the third and tied the single-season record for wins in a season with her 19th. Millsaps threw four scoreless innings and allowed just one hit while striking out three to improve to 19-3 on the season. Millsaps retired 12 of the 13 batters she faced before giving way to Kyndle Wallace for the final inning.
The Sherrill sisters, Vada and Bailey, combined to go 5-for-6 with three runs scored and two runs batted in. Makenzie Pennell drove in a pair with a run-scoring double and Kari Westerbeek went 2-for-2 with an RBI and a walk.
Vada Blue Sherrill stole her 43rd base of the season and hasn't been caught once all year.
It was more of the same in game two with Pfeiffer pitching a shutout and the offense doing damage. Kennedy Lester struck out four batters in her four shutout innings to improve to a perfect 10-0 on the year.
The offense pounded out 12 hits in five innings, led by two each from Pennell, Chandler Walker, Lindsey Powell and Millsaps. Pennell drove in three runs and hit a pair of doubles and Walker also hit a couple of two-baggers. Sherrill added two more stolen bases and Sara Brown added a run-scoring triple.
The Falcons return to action tomorrow when they travel to N.C. Wesleyan at 1 p.m.
