MISENHEIMER, N.C. -- In their final home games of the regular season, the Pfeiffer softball team (33-5) swept a doubleheader with Meredith (26-17) on Friday evening at Jack Ingram Field. The Falcons wrapped up their 2018 campaign with a 16-2 record at home.
In game one, the Falcons only needed five innings to dispatch the Avenging Angels. Pfeiffer pushed three runs across in each of the first two innings en route to an 8-0 victory. Kennedy Lester and Kyndle Wallace combined to no-hit Meredith in the five innings with Lester earning the win. Lester walked three and struck out four and Wallace threw a perfect inning of relief and struck out a pair.
Kiana Millsaps provided all the offense the Falcons would need as the junior slugged a 3-run bomb in the bottom of the first. For the game, Millsaps reached base all three times and scored a pair of runs. Chandler Walker went 2-for-3 with two runs driven in and Makenzie Pennell scored twice and drew two walks to go with a sacrifice fly.
Vada Blue Sherrill stole three bases in the game and scored twice.
Game two went into extra innings in a 3-3 deadlock. Pfeiffer had a chance to win in the bottom of the eighth with runners on second and third and no one out but failed to push across a run. However, Pennell had a walk-off base hit that scored Amanda Sports in the ninth to give the Falcons their 33rd win of the year. Sports led off the ninth with a triple to right field and came across on Pennell's single to right-center field.
Wallace was tremendous in relief, tossing 5.2 scoreless innings and striking out four batters. Millsaps earned her 21st win of the year with 2.1 scoreless innings.
Kari Westerbeek and Pennell each finished with two RBI in the victory and Pfeiffer stole three bases as a team.
The Falcons wrap up the regular season on Sunday with a trip to Montreat.
