MISENHEIMER, N.C. – The Pfeiffer softball team (35-5) wrapped up its 2018 regular season with a pair of five-inning sweeps of lowly Piedmont International (1-17) on Wednesday afternoon at Jack Ingram Field.
Thanks to a late schedule addition, the Falcons were able to earn a pair of wins to close out its 40-game slate. Pfeiffer won game one 10-1 and followed with an 11-1 victory over the Bruins.
In game one, Kyndle Wallace earned her first career win by throwing five innings and allowing just one run. The freshman allowed just four hits and no walks to go with her three strikeouts.
Vada Blue Sherrill led off the bottom of the first with her 16th home run of the season and Pfeiffer never looked back. The Falcons pushed across seven runs on six hits in the bottom of the third inning to push the lead to 10-1. Makenzie Pennell would crush a homer in the rally and Abi Peck drove in a pair with a double to right center.
Bailey Sherrill went 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBIs in the game and her sister Vada went 2-for-3 with two runs and also drove in a pair.
It was more of the same in game two with Kiana Millsaps improving to 22-4 in the circle by throwing five innings and allowing a single run. Like Wallace in game one, Millsaps didn't walk a batter and struck out four.
Chandler Walker went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs thanks to a bomb to left center field. Vada Sherrill added a bases-loaded double to plate three and scored a pair of runs.
The Falcons benefited from a tough outing from Bruins starting pitcher Hannah Renfroe who walked 10 batters in her 3.2 innings of work and threw just 50 strikes in her 113 pitches.
The Falcons will now wait to see if they are selected to the ECAC Tournament. The ECAC brackets will be released following the NCAA announcing their postseason tournament selections in early May. Stay tuned to gofalconsports.com for any postseason announcements and news.
