Softball Shows Power in Sweep of FDU-Florham

Pfeiffer Softball Overpowers FDU-Florham

Misenheimer, N.C. (March 14, 2019) Pfeiffer University allowed just five total hits and slugged their way to 28 runs in a doubleheader sweep of FDU-Florham on Thursday afternoon, winning 12-1 and 16-0 at Jack Ingram Field.

Pfeiffer scored in each of the first three innings, including seven runs in the third inning to take a 12-1 five inning win in game one.

FDU-Florham opened the scoring in the first inning by plating a run, but the Falcons struck for three in the bottom of the first thanks to an RBI single from Kiana Millsaps.  Pfeiffer then scored on a passed ball  and would go up 3-1 after Makenzie Pennell scored on a fielder's choice.

Vada Blue Sherrill made it 5-1 in the second inning when she lifted a two-run homer to left field.

Pfeiffer then exploded for seven runs in the third inning with the big hit coming from the bat of Maranda Benton, as she hit a bases-clearing double, driving in three to make it 8-1.  Pfeiffer then loaded the bases again, and FDU-Florham walked in two runs, making it 10-1.

Reece Davis then hit a single to shortstop that scored two runs to provide the eventual 12-1 final.

Kiana Millsaps earned her eighth pitching win over the season, throwing three innings and scattering three hits while giving up one run.  Emerson Puzey got two innings of work and did not allow a hit.

In game two, Pfeiffer erupted for nine runs in the second inning.  Sara Brown laced an RBI single up the middle to start the scoring.  Alexis Walter also had an RBI single and Vada Blue Sherrill hit a grand slam to put the Falcons up 6-0.  Kari Westerbeek got an RBI on a single and Reece Davis would get an RBI groundout in the inning to cap the inning.

Pfeiffer added five more in the third inning with Westerbeek connecting on a two-run home run.  Two more Falcon runs crossed in the fourth inning to complete the 16-0 win.

Falcon pitcher Kyndle Wallace got the complete game shutout, earning her second win of the season while allowing just two hits and striking out three Devil batters.

Next Games
The Falcons will return to play on Saturday, March 16 with a home doubleheader against Agnes Scott.  First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
