Pfeiffer Softball Takes Down Methodist in USA South Doubleheader

Misenheimer, N.C. (March 27, 2019) –The Pfeiffer University softball team continued their winning ways, downing USA South foe Methodist 9-1 and 8-0 in a league doubleheader at Jack Ingram Field on Wednesday afternoon.

Pfeiffer – 23-3, 6-2 USA South
Methodist – 8-18, 1-5 USA South


In game one Pfeiffer scored nine runs in the first inning and never looked back in taking the 9-1 win.  All scoring in the game was done in the first inning, with Methodist pushing across a run to take the 1-0 lead.  In the Pfeiffer half of the first, the Falcons sent 14 batters to the plate, collecting eight hits in the frame, with Kari Westerbeek hitting a two-RBI double.  Alexis Walter also hit an RBI- double, as did Makenzie Pennell.

Pfeiffer pitcher Reece Davis earned the win, pitching 3.0 innings allowing four hits and one run while striking out two Monarch batters.  Teammate Caiti Mickles got 2.0 innings of work, allowing no runs on one hit.

In game two, Pfeiffer got three runs in the second inning, thanks to a Kiana Millsaps RBI double.  A Methodist error would assist the Falcons push the second run of the inning across while Vada Blue Sherrill had a sacrifice fly to provide the other Pfeiffer run of the frame, making it 3-0.

The Falcons would then strike for four runs in the fourth inning.  Kiana Millsaps hit her fourth home run of the season, a solo shot to left field to lead off the inning.  Vada Blue Sherrill would get an RBI single and Makenzie Pennell would hit a bases-clearing two-run triple to cap the scoring, making it 7-0 after four complete.

After Methodist went down in order in the fifth, Pfeiffer's Kari Westerbeek drew a lead-off walk followed by a Kiana Millsaps single, putting runners on first and second.  Alyssa Heitz would then step in as a pinch hitter and ended the game with a walk-off single up the middle, sending Pfeiffer to the 8-0 win.
