Pfeiffer Women's Basketball Rolls Over Carolina Christian 91-42

The Pfeiffer University women's basketball team jumped out to a 29-2 lead after the first quarter and limited Carolina Christian College to just 26.9% from the field en route to a 91-42 home opening win in Merner Gym on Thursday evening.

In the first quarter, Pfeiffer (2-0) jumped out to a 5-0 lead before the Centurions got two free throws to make it 5-2 at the 7:56 mark.  CCC would not score again, as Pfeiffer went on a commanding 24-0 run over the quarter, allowing no field goals.

CCC would hit a three-pointer to open the second quarter scoring, but the Falcons immediately bounced back, building the lead to as many as 41 points on a Ja'Mia Johnson (Durham, N.C.) layup with 5:03 to play.  CCC made it 48-11 following a three-pointer from Laytoya McCray, but Pfeiffer again went up by 41, when
Kortni Pinion (Stanfield, N.C.) got a jumper to fall, making it 52-11.

After leading 58-20 at the half, Pfeiffer started the third quarter on an 8-3 spurt to make it 66-23 at 4:03.  CCC only managed five points in the quarter as the Falcons led by a 72-23 score after the third.

In the fourth quarter, Pfeiffer would grab the largest lead of the game, 54 points (90-36) following a
Taylor Brashears (Chapel Hill, N.C.) basket at the 2:36 mark. Following a free throw that made it 91-39, Carolina Christian would get a three pointer with just 23 seconds left to provide the 91-42 final.

Individually, all Falcon players that were dressed scored, with senior Sydni Beckford (Concord, N.C.) leading the way with 17 points and five assists.  Beyounce Jones (Ayden, N.C.) collected 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds.

As a team, Pfeiffer finished 38-of-83 from the field (44.7%), 8-of-22 (36.4%) from long range and 63.6% (7-of-11) from the free throw line.  The Falcons also managed 25 assists on the 38 made field goals.

The Falcons also forced Carolina Christian into 21 turnovers, converting those miscues into 28 points.

The Falcons will next be in action on Saturday, Nov. 17 with a road USA South matchup at Berea College.  Tipoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
