Sydni Bickford Tops 1,000 Career Points in Win Over Brevard

Misenheimer, N.C. (Feb. 13, 2019) –
Senior Sydni Bickford topped 1,000 career points as Pfeiffer University downed Brevard College 70-67 in the women's basketball season finale on Wednesday night at Merner Gym.

Bickford, who entered the game with 999 career points, took a while to heat up, but her baseline driving jumper at the 3:28 mark of the first quarter fell, making her just the 17th player in program history to achieve the 1,000 point milestone.  She was fouled on the play and converted the free throw, tying the game at 9-9.

Pfeiffer led 14-13 after the first, but the visiting Tornados went back up three points (19-16) early in the quarter.  Pfeiffer responded with a 7-0 spurt to regain the 23-19 lead.  After Brevard tied the game for the sixth time on a three-pointer, Pfeiffer jumped ahead by five points after a Regan Allen (Olin, N.C.) jumper and would get to as many as six points before Brevard knocked down a jumper to make it 36-31 at halftime.

In the third quarter, Brevard was able to build a six-point lead on two separate occasions, only to see Pfeiffer battle back to close to within 54-51 at the end of the quarter.

The Falcons were then able to take the lead once more in the fourth quarter, this time following a Kortni Pinion (Stanfield, N.C.) jumper that made it 55-54 Pfeiffer with 8:19 to play.

Brevard then took the 65-64 lead with 1:13 remaining, but Pinion converted two free throws to give the Falcons the lead they would not relinquish.  It was tense down the stretch, as Brevard got to within 68-67 with 15 seconds left.  Following a timeout by the Tornados, Pinion nailed two more free throws to solidify the 70-67 lead.  Brevard had two chances to tie the game in the final 10 seconds but neither attempt would fall, sending the Falcons to the 70-67 win on Senior Night.

Individually, Pinion led all scorers with 26 rebounds. She also managed seven rebounds, as did guard Brina Bentley (Chester, Va.).  Bentley also scored in double figures, adding 10 points.  Bickford finished her final game for Pfeiffer with 17 points, including a 3-of-4 effort from long range and a 6-of-10 mark from the field.  She finishes her career with 1,016 points and 208 made three-pointers, which stands as the program's all-time leader.

The Falcons close the season with a 10-13 record while Brevard falls to 10-15.
