Pfeiffer Women's Basketball Falls in Opener to Washington & Lee
Misenheimer, N.C. (Nov. 9, 2019) – Junior Mya Johnson poured in a game-high 25 points but it was not enough, as visiting Washington & Lee took a 76-62 women's basketball win on Saturday afternoon at Merner Gym.
After a back-and-forth first quarter that saw WLU take an 18-16 lead, the Generals used a big second quarter, outscoring Pfeiffer 18-7 in the stanza to take the 36-23 lead at the break.
Pfeiffer trimmed the lead to 10 points (52-42) at the end of the third quarter and would draw to 69-62 with 2L34 to play following a three-pointer from Kortni Pinion (Stanfield, N.C.) that forced a Washington & Lee timeout.
That would be the closest Pfeiffer would get, as WLU held the Falcons scoreless the rest of the way in a 7-0 run that ended the game with the Generals taking the 76-62 final.
Pfeiffer shot 22-of-63 (34.9%) from the field and just 5-of-13 (38.5%) from distance while WLU countered with a 42.3% (30-of-71) outing from the field and 8-of-27 (29.6) from outside.
Individually, Mya Johnson (Roxboro, N.C.) finished with 25 points and six rebounds while Pinion had nine points. Regan Allen (Olin, N.C.) also had six rebounds for the Falcons.
Pfeiffer will have a short turnaround, as they travel to Hollins for a 3:00 p.m. game on Sunday, Nov. 10.
