Southern Virginia Drops Falcon Women, 81-58
Buena Vista, Va. (Nov. 19, 2019) – The Pfeiffer University women's basketball team could not overcome a poor shooting performance, falling to Southern Virginia 81-58 in a nonconference road game on Tuesday night.
The homestanding Knights got off to a quick start, bolting to a 23-8 lead after the first quarter and never looked back.
Pfeiffer outscored SVU in the second quarter by a 22-19 count to make it 42-30 at halftime. Another poor shooting effort in the third quarter allowed SVU to take the 60-37 lead heading into the fourth.
The Knight lead would stretch to as much as 32 points in the final quarter with the Falcons closing the game with eight straight points to provide the 81-58 final.
The Falcons (1-4) got identical 11-point, six-rebound efforts from both Brina Bentley (Chester, Va.) and Kortni Pinion (Stanfield, N.C.). A'Mya McClain (Hickory, N.C.) contributed seven points while dishing a team-best five assists.
Southern Virginia (2-1) was led by Katie Garrish with 12 points and 15 rebounds.
Pfeiffer will turn their focus to their next game, a 2:00 p.m. home contest against Brevard on Saturday, Nov. 23.
