Pfeiffer Women's Soccer Rolls to 5-0 Win at William Peace

Cary, N.C. (Oct. 1, 2019) –
Sophomore forward Mackenzie Pruitt had two goals and an assist while teammate Dayanna Riera posted a pair of goals as the Pfeiffer women's soccer team rolled to a 5-0 road USA South win over William Peace University at the WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C. on Tuesday night.

Pruitt, a product of Havelock, N.C., opened the scoring for the Falcons in the 20th minute when she corralled a loose ball and fired a shot that deflected off several defenders and into the Pacer net.

Riera, a sophomore from The Bronx, N.Y., got into the scoring column in the 25th minute after making several moves on the left side, then ripped shot into the net to put Pfeiffer up 2-0, a score that would be taken into the halftime break.

In the second half, junior Cayci Eaton (Harrisburg, N.C.) scored off a pass from Pruitt in the 50th minute, putting Pfeiffer up 3-0.  Eaton's shot went into the right side of the net past the Pacer goalkeeper, for her team-leading sixth goal of the season.

The final two goals of the match were scored less than two minutes apart, with Riera scoring in the 60th minute after making a spin-move in the box and firing high for the goal.  Pruitt provided the final goal for the Falcons in the 62nd minute after Gabby Bosak (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.) controlled a loose ball in the box and found Pruitt at the top of the box who then unleased a shot in traffic to provide the 5-0 final.

Senior goalkeeper Kaley Hyatt (St. Cloud, Fla.) made three saves on the night in registering her second shutout of the season.

The win improves Pfeiffer to 6-3 overall and 2-0 in USA South play while William Peace drops to 4-5-1 overall and 1-1 in league play.

Pfeiffer will stay on the road, traveling to Meredith this upcoming Saturday, Oct. 5 for a 2:00 matchup with the Angels in Raleigh, N.C.
