Pfeiffer Women Scores 8-0 Home Win Over Mary Baldwin
Misenheimer, N.C. (Oct. 12, 2019) – Pfeiffer University had multiple players score multiple goals in a convincing 8-0 win over Mary Baldwin at a warm and sun drenched Lefko Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Falcons started the scoring in the 18th minute when sophomore Mackenzie Pruitt (Havelock, N.C.) scored the first of her three goals on the afternoon. Pruitt took a cross from junior Gabby Bosak (Charleston, S.C.) and redirected the shot into the left side of the goal to put Pfeiffer up 1-0.
Meredith Manson (Auburndale, Fla.) made it 2-0 when Bosak delivered a ball that allowed Manson to break away from the Squirrel defense. Manson then beat the MBU goalkeeper for her second tally of the season at the 18:40 mark
The lead ballooned to 3-0 in the 20th minute when Pruitt got an assist from Bosak on a cross from the middle of the field.
Freshman Kayla Blankenship (Asheboro, N.C.) scored her first career goal in the 30th minute when sophomore Jessica Vasquez (High Point, N.C.) send a cross from the corner, putting Pfeiffer up 4-0. Blankenship would also make it 5-0 with an unassisted goal at the 37:15 mark.
Freshman Patricia Summers (Lenoir, N.C.) scored the final goal of the first half at the 44:40 mark when Vazquez crossed a ball from the right sideline, hitting Summers in stride for her second goal of the match.
In the second half, Pruitt would notch the hat trick in the 51st minute when senior Krystal Jaimes (Asheboro, N.C.) lobbed a pass from the right side over the MBU defense that found a wide open Pruitt, who capped it, scoring her seventh goal of the season, making it 7-0 Falcons.
The final goal of the afternoon again came with an assist from Vazquez, her third of the match. This time, she found Manson off a corner kick, providing the eventual 8-0 final.
All told, Vazquez and Bosak each finished with three assists while Pruitt notched three goals, while Manson and Blankenship each netting a pair.
Senior Kaley Hyatt (St. Cloud, Fla.) earned the win in goal, as she made one save on the afternoon. Freshman Alyssa Keatts (Snow Hill, N.C.) spelled Hyatt in the second half, making three saves and combining for the shutout.
The win improves Pfeiffer to 9-3 overall and 5-0 in USA South play while Mary Baldwin dips to 4-9 and 0-4 in league competition.
The win also marks the fifth straight win for the Falcons, with the past four coming via shutout. Pfeiffer has not allowed a goal in the previous 446:25 of play.
The Falcons will hit the road for their next two USA South matches, with the first being at Averett on Oct. 15.
