Pfeiffer Volleyball Adds Kristi Sammons as Assistant Coach
Misenheimer, N.C. (July 2, 2019) – Pfeiffer University head volleyball coach Melissa Ferris has hired Kristi Sammons as assistant coach.
Sammons comes to Pfeiffer after a stellar four-year career at fellow USA South member LaGrange College.
Playing from 2013-17 at LaGrange as a defensive specialist, Sammons recorded 175 digs over her career, averaging 1.43 digs per set while playing in 59 career matches. Her career-best output came in a 13-dig outing against Oglethorpe during her freshman season.
Sammons helped lead LaGrange to 64 wins over her career, including a 22-14 mark in her senior season while helping the Panthers to a semifinal appearance in the USA South Tournament.
Following her playing career, she served as a graduate assistant coach for the Panther program in 2017 and 2018 where they finished 14-13 and 10-12, respectively
"I'm excited about becoming a member of the coaching staff here at Pfeiffer," said Sammons. "I am looking forward to the upcoming 2019 season and having the opportunity to work with the returning players and welcoming the newcomers to Misenheimer."
A native of Grovetown, Ga., Sammons was a three-year starter at Grovetown High School and was named the Georgia Region 3-AAA Player of the Year. During her prep career, she also earned Player of the Week honors from MaxPreps.com and from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).
Head coach Melissa Ferris is excited for the opportunity and experience that Sammons will bring to the Pfeiffer volleyball program. "She brings experience and a passion for the game that will really help us continue tbuild our program, said Ferris".
"She will serve as our recruiting coordinator and is a perfect fit for that role. She has a passion for recruiting and an eye for talent that is going to help us continue to get great players and students at Pfeiffer. I am excited about the future of Pfeiffer volleyball and am thankful Kristi has joined our staff."
